The frame. The neck.
The way we turn.
SUUSTON is a pillow designed from the male body up.
The Question
Almost everything we put on the body is made for men and for women separately. Not because one is bigger than the other, but because the shape of the body is different to begin with.
So why is the pillow — the one object that carries the body for seven or eight hours every night — still the same for everyone?
Movement
A pillow is not where the head rests.
It is where the head keeps moving.
No elaborate contours locking the head into one position. A wide men's pillow, kept simple, so that wherever you turn, the comfort follows.
Sleep on your back. Turn to the left. Turn to the right. For back and side sleepers alike, SUUSTON was designed for wherever the head lands next.
OmniRing™
A wide, unshaped body with the same resilience across left, center and right. Every time you turn, the next place is a new place to rest.
Support continues on your left side.
The middle holds without sinking away.
The next landing is just as comfortable.
Neither high-resilience
nor memory foam.
Press, and it receives. Release, and it returns. SUUSTON was never aiming for one end of the firm-or-soft argument, but for a feel that stays comfortable through every turn of the night.
And one more thing:
the breath you take while asleep.
20,000
breaths a day
A person is said to take roughly twenty thousand breaths a day. The breathing does not stop when you fall asleep.
We look after our breathing all day,
then leave it behind at night.
So SUUSTON was designed for more than resting the head — it holds the neck at an angle that keeps a natural sleeping posture, one that does not get in the way of the breath.
Breathing rates vary from person to person.
A pillow for deeper breathing.
Suu — the breath drawn in. Ston — the drop into sleep.
The Origin
After twenty years of making pillows, there was one problem I could not solve: my own mornings. Looking for an answer, I went to an island with five hundred people on it.
No signal.
Nights darker than I had known nights could be.
Air from the old forest entering a body still warm from the bath.
Nothing had been added, and yet sleep came deeper. That was when I understood. It was not the emptiness that let me sleep. When the excess fell away, the breath came back.
Sleep did not need more.
It needed less.
The way a human body falls asleep has hardly changed since the beginning.
No complicated shapes. No features for their own sake.
Nothing that interrupts a turn.
Less noise around the act of sleeping.
What remained was width,
resilience, and breath.
